Winfield E. Marshall
1880 - 1957
Apparently born a twin to a deaf family, Winfield Marshall first attended the American School for the Deaf followed by Fanwood School for the Deaf. He graduated from Gallaudet College in 1904 and settled in New York City for a time. He moved on to work for the Southern Railroad Company until his retirement in 1955. Winfield appears to be the first person to record a translation of the well-know song, ""Yankee Doodle"". Later renditions of the song retained many of the creative linguistic features first devised by Marshall for the chorus.
